Al Vecchio Convento

Not far away. There is a heavenly place named Al Vecchio Convento. In Emilia-Romagna, Italy. In the little village Portico di Romagna. A wonderful hotel and restaurant run by the Cameli family.

We visited Al Vecchio Convento last week, for just a couple of days relaxing, enjoying the place and the hospitality – and having a fantastic meal created by chef Matteo Cameli, and tasting some of the delicious wines from the region. Grazie mille!!

Actually it was our second stay at the convent, we also spend a week’s time there 3 or 4 years ago. We’ll be back – and can only recommend to go there!

The place also comes with an excellent view.

Here’s some info from their website:

Al Vecchio Convento is hotel and restaurant, situated in the little village Portico di Romagna, in the Appennine hills between Florence and Ravenna in Tuscan Romagna.

The history in Portico begins in 1975, when Marisa and her husband Gianni decided, after having run a restaurant together in Milan, to move back to Marisas birthplace and to take over the local inn – at the same time they started restoring one of the old buildings in the centre and turned it into a 3 stars hotel.

In 1994 they renovated the annex, another historical building, located 50 meters from the main building, and the hotel was the first to be included on the list over Alberghi diffusi, “Spread out hotel”, in the region of Emilia-Romagna. Today the whole family runs the place, including their two sons, Massimiliano and Matteo, and their (Danish!) wives, Camilla and Ulla. In the kitchen you’ll find the men of the Cameli family: Giovanni with his two sons, Massimiliano and Matteo.

Check out for more info at their website.

Beginning of October they will open a restaurant in Denmark, in Odder, near Aarhus – this place will be run by Massimiliano and an international crew. Maybe we should sneak by one day….
